DCT Shifter & Clutch Simulator Installation Guide

This guide covers the main installation steps for your DCT Shifter and Clutch Simulator setup. It includes shifter wiring, mounting recommendations, clutch simulator installation, bleeding, and controller calibration.

The goal is a clean and reliable installation with fast response and consistent shift feel.

Overview

A correct installation is important for both shifter feel and transmission performance. The DCT Shifter uses a simple three-wire setup, while the Clutch Simulator must be mounted and bled correctly for accurate pressure input to the controller.

1. Shifter Installation

Three-Wire Configuration

The shifter uses a simple three-wire configuration. Make sure the connector is facing forward. If it is installed incorrectly, the UP and DOWN directions may be reversed.

  • Blue: DOWN
  • Brown: 5V ground or chassis ground depending on controller setup

Mounting

Use a Rigid Mounting Surface

For the most tactile and responsive gear changes, mount the shifter to a solid and rigid base, such as a steel floor plate or a reinforced center console.

Any flex in the mounting surface can reduce shift feel and affect the response during gear changes.

2. Clutch Simulator Installation

The clutch simulator allows the TCU to simulate manual clutch pedal input. Depending on the vehicle and available space, it can be mounted directly at the firewall or pedalbox, or in a remote location.

Option A

Firewall / Pedalbox Mount

Measure the distance from the mounting face to the clutch pedal arm before installation. Adjust the simulator rod to the correct length before final mounting.

A standard M8x1.25 threaded rod is supplied, but some OEM pedals may require a different clevis. In some cases, the original clevis may need to be modified to fit the M8 rod.

Remote Mount

The simulator can also be mounted remotely in a convenient location within the engine bay or cabin.

It must be mounted lower than the clutch master cylinder reservoir to ensure proper fluid flow.

3. Fluid and Bleeding Procedure

Hydraulic Setup

The system operates on standard brake fluid. Treat the installation and bleeding process with the same care and precision as a braking system.

Run a high-pressure line from the clutch master cylinder to the simulator inlet, then fill the reservoir with the appropriate fluid.

Bleeding Steps

  • Open the bleed screw on the simulator.
  • Allow fluid to flow until there are no air bubbles.
  • Close the bleed screw.
  • Pump the clutch pedal 3–5 times.
  • Hold the pedal firmly to the floor.
  • Open the bleed screw briefly to release trapped air, then close it.
  • Repeat until pedal feel is firm and consistent.

4. Controller Calibration (CPS)

Sensor Output

Clutch Pressure Sensor

The Clutch Pressure Sensor (CPS) translates clutch pressure into an electronic signal between 0.5V and 5.0V for the transmission controller.

Connect the CPS output to a recommended analog input on your controller.

Manual Calibration in Software

The minimum and maximum sensor voltage must be calibrated manually in your software. This is typically done in systems such as TurboLamik, MaxxECU, and similar controllers.

Make sure the lowest and highest voltage values are set correctly so the controller can interpret clutch pressure accurately.

Installation Tips

Check Direction

Always verify that UP and DOWN inputs work in the correct direction before final assembly.

Prioritize Rigidity

A rigid mounting surface gives the best tactile shift feel and most consistent operation.

Bleed Thoroughly

Any trapped air in the clutch simulator system can affect sensor readings and overall response.
